On Dec. 30, Frozen Pea Productions held Peaman’s Birthday Biathlon, a half-mile swim followed by a 3.9-mile run.
The swim course started at the second buoy at Kailua Pier, went out to the turnaround at the 800-meter buoy and ended at the beach. Immediately following the swim, the run course took athletes from the pier, down Alii Drive to the turnaround near Casa de Emdeko and back along scenic Alii Drive to the finish line at the pier.
Jenson Button and Tommy Vonach tied for first place overall. Both athletes finished the course in an outstanding time of 39 minutes, 6 seconds. Tony Frost earned second place with a time of 41:13. Yu Yumoto claimed third at 42:07.
Abby Rideout finished ninth overall and first for the women with a time of 45:45. Zoe Frost took second (46:19), and Kayla Teslow earned third (47:51).
For the Split Peas, the team of Hulk and Kris Kiser finished in 41:54 to earn first place. Team Isabella Zambrana and Chris Buncombe claimed second (44:43). Underdog and Jason Shepard took third (46:39), while Team Elastic Man and Zachary Shepard, who biked the run portion, crossed the finish at 44:31.
In the Pea-wee race, Duke Becker completed the race in 11:07, earning him a first-place finish. Kanaipono Eckart was just behind to take second place with a time of 11:26. Kia Griley claimed third place (12:34).
Finishing first for the Peawee Split Peas was the team on Anna Naggert and Kristoph Naggart with a time of 11:09. Second was earned by team Wonder Woman and Dorje Gurung (11:29). Team Batman and Jigtral Gurung claimed third (12:50).
Congratulations to all who participated in Peaman’s Birthday Biathlon. You are all pea-tastic. And we hope that Peaman had a hap-pea, hap-pea birthday.
Team Mango Races will begin its 2013 race season on Sunday with the Wintertime Super Sprint Triathlon. This race will include a 200-yard swim, a six-mile bike ride and a one-mile run. It will begin at Kailua Pier at 7 a.m. Go to teammangoraces.com for more info.
The next Frozen Pea Productions race, Peaman’s Splish-Splash and Super Bowl Shuffle Biathlon, will take place at 8 a.m. Jan. 27 at Kailua Pier. It will include a half-mile swim and a 3.1-mile run. As always, there will be a shorter course, with a 200-yard swim and a one-mile run, for anyone to participate in. Masks, snorkels, fins and strollers are all welcome on the course. This is a free community event.
