Dragons roll past Waveriders


Sophomore Shayla Ignacio led a balanced Honokaa attack with 17 points as the Dragons rolled past Kealakehe 95-12 Thursday in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation girls basketball game at Honokaa Armory.

Junior guard Shereena Bird added 16 points, and senior guard Keana Kaohimaunu followed with 15. Junior guard Shemika Frazier and freshman guard Kizzah Maltezo chipped in 10 apiece for the Dragons (2-1).

Ka’ohuleilani Abad led Kealakehe (0-4) with three points.

In the junior varsity game, Honokaa defeated Kealakehe 68-30 behind 20 points from Markell Marquez, 13 from Hiilani Hanohano and 12 from Kayla Requelman. Sosefina Kalavi scored a team-high 15 points for Kealakehe.

Hilo 48, Ka‘u 12: Shalyn Guthier scored 14 points, and Alexis Pana added 13 for the host Vikings, who remained undefeated at 4-0.

Shaylin Navarro, Mia Cariaga and Shyann Flores-Carvalho scored four points apiece for the Trojans, who dropped to 1-3.

Waiakea 51, Keaau 31: Nicole Antonio scored 14 points, and Daven Namohala-Roloos added 10 for the visiting Warriors, who improved to 2-2.

Taylor Pocock scored a team-high 11 points for the Cougars (1-3).

In the JV game, Waiakea beat Keaau 54-24 behind Elyse Hasegawa’s 17 points. Aina Padasdao led Keaau with eight points.

Kamehameha-Hawaii 52, Pahoa 18: At Pahoa, junior Casey Poe scored 28 points and sophomore Riana Arima added 13 to lead the Warriors (4-0). No one scored more than four points for the Daggers (0-4).

Boys soccer

Parker 1, Kamehameha-Hawaii 1: Maka Kahana’s first goal of the season tied the match in the first half, giving the host Warriors (3-4-2) a point in the BIIF Division II standings.

Senior Paul Gregg scored his team-high seventh goal for the Bulls (3-5-2).
