Kauai man gets life in prison for fatal shooting
LIHUE — A Kauai man is facing life in prison without parole for the execution-style killing of a man he didn’t want to testify about a robbery.
Prosecutors said Tuesday Fifth Circuit Court Chief Judge Randal Valenciano sentenced Vicente Hilario, 26, after a month-long trial. He received five consecutive prison terms for bribing a witness.
Prosecutors say Hilario shot Aureo Moore six times at close range in December 2010. They say he killed Moore to prevent him from testifying against Hilario in connection with a robbery.
The judge said the evidence presented at trial showed Moore’s killing was premeditated and brutal. He said it involved drugs and an effort to protect territory and profit.
