Jose Parker

Jose “Joe” Parker, 48, of Keaau died Sept. 17, 2013, at his home. Born Oct. 4, 1964, in Key West, Fla., he was a contractor and a member of the Open Arms Metropolitan Community Church.

Bette Barrett

Bette Mae Barrett, 78, of Keaau died Sept. 29, 2013, at her home. Born Sept. 10, 1935, in Long Beach, Calif.; she was a professional seamstress and artist.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by son, Steven (Diane) Barrett of Keaau; daughter, Elisa Adams of California; sister, Shirley (Tom) Thurston of California; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Larry Buck

Larry Richard Buck, 66, of Volcano died Sept. 27, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Detroit, he was a bookkeeper for the former Volcano Flowers and Greenery and a farmer.

He is survived by companion, Joyce Sayles of Volcano; daughters, Maile (Deva Hunt) Buck of Kukuihaele, Lehua Buck of San Francisco, Tracy Sayles of Honolulu; sister, Anna (Rodney) Gombar of Holly, Mich.; hanai sister, Miji Roberts of Waco, Texas; seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Sumie Goto

Sumie Goto, 81, of Hilo died Oct. 2, 2013, at her home. Born in Hilo, she was a retired teacher at Hilo Union School.

Private services will be held. Family requests no flowers and no monetary gifts be given.

She is survived by sons, Dean (Maureen) Goto, and Glen Goto both of Hilo; grandson, Randy Goto of Washington; sister, Francine (Iwao) Yamasaki of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews.

Kevin Jackson

Kevin Scott Jackson, 55, of Kailua-Kona died Oct. 1, 2013. Born in Colorado, he was a manager at Holualoa Bay Villas.

John “Jay” D. Lopez Sr., 66, of Keaau died Sept. 30, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on Kauai, he was a construction worker.

He is survived by wife, Priscilla Lopez of Keaau; son, John (Tessie) Lopez Jr. of Keaau; daughters, Davelyn (Reynold) Lopez of Waimea, Leona (Randy) Lopez of Hilo, stepdaughter, Liana (Darren) Vegas of Kauai; brother, Michael (Kumpun) Lopez of Kauai; sister, Christine (Richard) Callejo of Kauai; 13 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
