Royden Yamasato

Royden Haruto Yamasato, 71, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 3 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Nov. 5, 1940, in Hilo, he was a retired West Hawaii planning program manager for the County of Hawaii, consultant for Carlsmith Ball LLP, president of the Ostomy Association of Hawaii, Army veteran, member of the Athletic Booster Club for Waiakea High School, Kaumalumalu Kumiai, and HGEA.

Friends may call at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 27 from 1:30 p.m. at Kona Outdoor Circle for a 3 p.m. celebration of life. A reception will follow. Family requests casual attire be worn and flowers omitted.

He is survived by wife, Irene Yamasato, of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Desiree (Clifton) Okamoto, of Palm Desert, Calif., Pamela (Brian) Ishihara, of Honolulu; brothers, Sheldon (Joann) Yamasato, Dennis (Charleen) Yamasato, of Honolulu; four grandchildren; aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Elsie Yoshimatsu

Elsie Sakae Yoshimatsu, 88, of Waimea, died Jan. 26 at her residence. Born in Waimea, she was a retired civil service clerk for the Department of the Army and member of the Kamuela Hongwanji Mission, Kamuela American Japanese Civic Association and Waimea Senior Citizens.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts.

She is survived by sisters, Kiyome Yoshimatsu and Akiko (Richard) Hanano, both of Waimea, Rose Markey, of California; brother, Kenneth Yoshimatsu, of Honolulu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Valentine Santarone Sr.

Valentine "Val" Santarone Sr., 58, of Mountain View, died Jan. 17 at home. Born in Elmira, N.Y., he was the former operations manager with Doonwood Engineering on Oahu and member of the National Rifle Association and a board member of Kulia I Ka Nuu Outreach.

Private services were held. Public memorial services to be announced and held on Oahu and the Big Island at a later date.

He is survived by wife, Darlene Santarone, of Mountain View; sons, Anthone Santarone and Valentine Santarone Jr., both of Mountain View; two grandsons; three granddaughters. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Gladys Yonemitsu

Gladys Yoshiko Yonemitsu, 88, of Hilo, formerly of Naalehu, died Jan. 17 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born June 2, 1923, in Haleiwa, Oahu, she was a retired kindergarten teacher from Naalehu Elementary School and member of Naalehu Hongwanji Mission, Hawaii State Teachers Association-Retired) and National Education Association-Retired.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by husband, Takeshi Yonemitsu, of Hilo; daughter, Jan (Melvin) Yokota, of Hilo; a granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews.

Herbert Ushiroda Sr.

Herbert Yuji Ushiroda Sr., 89, of Kealakekua, died Jan. 22 at Kona Community Hospital. Born Sept. 12, 1922, in Kealakekua, he was the owner of the former Herbert's Service Station in Kealakekua, member of Kona Lions Club and Automotive Business Association and an Army veteran.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary donations.

He is survived by wife, Yoshie Ushiroda, of Kealakekua; sons, Herbert Ushiroda Jr., of Honolulu, Darryl (Gloria) Ushiroda and Dain (Jenny) Ushiroda, both of Kealakekua, Aaron Ushiroda, of Kailua-Kona, Todd (Irene Stone) Ushiroda, of Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Tadao Tanoue

Tadao Tanoue, 89, of Hilo, died Jan. 14 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired independent sugarcane planter and flower grower, member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin and Upper Kaumana Kumiai and World War II Army veteran, 442nd Regimental Combat Team.

Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts.

He is survived by wife, Yuriko Tanoue, of Hilo; son, Wesley Tanoue, of Hilo; daughter, Alison (George) Geanon, of Pewaukee, Wis.; sister, Elsie Nariyoshi, of Honolulu; two grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Evan Camacho

Evan Gomes Camacho, 86, of Kailua-Kona died Feb. 7 in Kailua-Kona. Born Nov. 17, 1925, in Hilo, he was a World War II Army veteran, tour driver for Greyhound, logistics for Yamada & Sons, county road inspector, owner of Hawaii Lube Equipment and member of the American Legion.

Private services will be held.

He is survived by wife, Betty Camacho, of Kailua-Kona; sons, Vance Camacho, of Puna, Geoff Camacho, of Ridgemont, Calif.; daughter, Rhonda Ellis, of Michigan; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.

Rosalina Miller

Rosalina "Rose" Alcain Miller, 82, of Holualoa, is also survived by a sister, Abby Alcain, of Honaunau.
