Rev. James Yoshiyuki Sanbei, 88, of Hilo died July 21 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center in Hilo. Born Dec. 10, 1923, in Wahiawa, he was a retired minister, serving at Kinoole Baptist Church in Hilo from 1963 to 1984.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. July 29 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo, where a memorial service begins at 4 p.m. The family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by wife, Katherine Sanbei of Hilo; son, Arthur (Debra) Sanbei of Hawaiian Beaches; daughters, Marilyn (Isaac) Gusukuma of Waco, Texas, Phyllis (Howard) Kuwahara of Vienna, Virginia, and Jewelle (Derrik) Imai of Hilo; brother, Richard (Emily) Sanbei of Wahiawa; sister, Doris (Takumi) Izuno of McAllen, Texas; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
