Dora “Toots” Cormack Thevenin, 94, of Puako died Dec. 19 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born Feb. 9, 1918, in Ookala, she was a school teacher at Honokaa Elementary School where one of her well known students was the former Gov. John Waihee. She and her husband, Leon Thevenin, designated in memory of their son, The Joseph Leon Thevenin Trust to the Hamakua Health Center where funds from the trust partially funded the recent renovations to the patient admission center and central nurses’ station; and they created a charitable trust to help with medical assistance for former plantation employees and their families.
Private services were held at the family plot in Honokaa. Family requests that gifts of remembrances be made to the North Hawaii Hospice at 65-1328 Kawaihae Road, Kamuela, HI 96743.
She is survived by husband, Leon Thevenin of Puako.
