Police search for escaped inmate

Big Island police say they are looking for a female inmate who escaped Sunday morning.

Around 7:30 a.m., police received a call from the Hale Nani Correctional Facility that 21-year-old Shaylyn M. Araw escaped by scaling a 15- to 20-foot fence.

Araw is described as having brown eyes, being 5-foot-3, weighing 110 pounds, and having brown shoulder length hair and tan complexion. She was last seen wearing blue shorts with “HCC” printed on the back, as well as white T-shirt with “HCC Inmate” printed on the back, police said.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts should call the Hawaii Police Department’s nonemergency line at 935-3311.
