Police arrested 20 for suspected DUI

Police arrested 20 drivers for suspected drunken driving between Feb. 11 and Monday; nine were involved in traffic accidents.

Police have made 147 suspected DUI arrests this year compared with 183 during the same period in 2012, according to the Hawaii Police Department.

Kona officers arrested eight motorists, South Hilo officers arrested seven and Puna officers five, according to police.

There have been 159 major accidents this year compared with 197 during the same period in 2012. To date, there have been eight traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with two at this time in 2012.
