Pacific Air Cargo begins weekly cattle flights
Flying steerage just took on a whole new meaning.
Pacific Air Cargo, using 727 airplanes leased from Kalitta Air, is taking Big Island cattle to the West Coast on a weekly basis, CEO Beti Ward said.
The company was already flying from Los Angeles to Honolulu Monday through Friday, she said. Now, the flight unloads its cargo on Oahu on Fridays and heads to Kona, where it picks up cattle from island ranches, including Parker Ranch, each Saturday before making the return flight to the mainland. The company also occasionally moves horses from Hawaii Island and it brought dairy cows to the island for a local dairy, Ward said.
