North Hawaii Community Hospital’s Emergency Department was ranked in the 99th percentile for patient satisfaction scores in June — “an extraordinary achievement,” according to President and CEO Ken Wood.
The hospital contracted Press Ganey Associates Inc. to independently complete patient satisfaction surveys mailed to patients at random. Press Ganey works with more than 7,000 health care facilities, including more than 40 percent of U.S. hospitals, to measure and improve the quality of care.
“Our Emergency Department staff is an exceptional group of people; from the unit secretaries, nurses, physicians, emergency room technicians, phlebotomists, imaging technicians, patient access reps and housekeepers, each person plays a role and contributes to each patient’s experience,” said Emergency Department Director Aaron Traynor.
Press Ganey surveys ask patients to rank friendliness and concern expressed by nurses and physicians, decisionmaking, understandable instructions, time spent with patients and likelihood of recommending the hospital to others. The results are studied to form action plans. — WHT
