A Ka‘u man was sentenced Thursday to serve up to four decades years in prison for sexually abusing a child, according to the Hawaii County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
David Kaawa was found guilty April 26 by jury trial on charges of continuous sex assault of a minor under age 14 and first-degree sexual assault, according to the office. Each charge carried a mandatory 20-year prison sentence.
Third Circuit Court Chief Judge Ronald Ibarra sentenced Kaawa to consecutive terms, meaning he will spend up to 40 years in prison, according to the office.
