Police arrested 31 drivers for suspected drunken driving between March 4 and Monday; seven were involved in traffic accidents and one driver was under age 21.
Police have made 241 suspected DUI arrests this year compared with 273 during the same period in 2012, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Kona officers arrested 14 motorists, South Hilo arrested 11 drivers, Puna officers arrested three drivers and North Hilo officers arrested one motorist, according to police.
There have been 244 major accidents this year compared with 301 during the same period in 2012. To date, there have been nine traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with seven at this time in 2012.
