Youth juried show results announced

The Waimea Arts Council has announced the winners of its 29th annual Na Opio Junior Juried Art Show, on exhibit through March 30 at the Firehouse Gallery in Waimea. Students from North and South Kohala and Hamakua districts participated.

Sixth grade: Angelee Yagong, Honokaa Elementary, first place; Zach Vermeulen, Hawaii Preparatory Academy, second place; Melia Van Kirk, HPA, third place; Aukai Ahuna, Honokaa Elementary and Hayden Virtue, HPA, honorable mentions.

Seventh grade: Kawena Ching, Parker School, first place; Ruby Johnson, HPA, second place; Lucy Callender, HPA, third place; Fanny Arnouts, Parker School, honorable mention.

Eighth grade: Eric Fetsch, Waikoloa Middle School, first place; Tyler Alt, HPA, second place; George Donev, HPA, third place; Dani Gresonde, Parker School and Tania Du Pont, Waimea Middle School, honorable mentions.

Ninth grade: Gabrielle Bartolome, Kohala High, first place; Malik Marona, Parker School, second place; Katie Jefferson, HPA, third place; Marlo Mundon, Parker School, honorable mention.

10th grade: Lila Alligood, Parker School, first place; Avery Williams, Parker School, second place; Lila Alligood, Parker School, third place; Claire Coley, HPA, honorable mention.

11th grade: Maria Letzring, Kohala High, first place; Jonas Weisse, HPA, second place; Emily Whitfield, Parker School, third place; Darnee Brighter, Parker School, honorable mention.

12th grade: Marisa Saito, Parker School, first place; Ginger Lee, Parker School, second place; Brieanah Gouveia, Parker School, third place; Elliot Jacobson, Parker School, honorable mention.

Tedd Nash Pomanski judged this year’s show. Pomanski has been a featured artist in galleries worldwide since age 17. Born in Hilo, he recently returned to Hawaii Island to focus on drawing the island’s waves and figurative and abstracted landscapes, with an emphasis on the cultural and historic impact of the Kohala Coast resorts.

The Firehouse Gallery, a project of the Waimea Arts Council, is located at the intersection of Lindsey Road and Mamalahoa Highway in Waimea. Regular gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. For more information, call or text Janice Gail at 936-1449.
