Kona Festivale Chorale presents its annual Pops Menagerie concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Kamakahonu Ballroom of King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.
The concert, “Beyond All that Jazz,” features two hours of classics from the Swing Era of jazz music.
“Beyond All that Jazz” involves a spontaneity and vitality in which improvisation plays a role, and contains a sonority and manner of phrasing that mirror the individuality of the performing jazz musician or ensemble.
Celebration, an ensemble of female performers, will headline the show with songs including “Long Ago and Far Away,” “Ain’t Misbehavin’” and “At Last.” Also featured will be Jo-Anna Boshard’s rendition of “Stormy Weather,” Red Johnson’s “I Left My Heart In San Francisco,” Roxanne Olson’s “This Masquerade,” and Misty Mistler’s “All that Jazz” and “The Way You Look Tonight.”
Instrumentalist Bill Noble will also be featured, along with “Kona” Bob Stoffer’s string bass of his own invention. The Kona Festivale Chorale completes this musical montage with favorites such as “Night and Day,” “Moonglow” and “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head.”
Patrons will also have an opportunity to win a “mystery bag” or box loaded with fun items.
Reserved seating tickets are $25; $10 for children. General seating is $20; children 12 and younger are free. Call the chorale’s ticket hot line at 331-1115.
