Ira Ono, owner and director of Volcano Garden Arts in Volcano Village was awarded a Betty Crocker Landscape Award at a ceremony earlier this year. Presented annually by Scenic Hawaii Inc., the award, named for one of its founders, is given to gardeners who make Hawaii a special place.
Ono purchased his property 10 years ago and brought it back to life. The original 1908 farmhouse is now a contemporary art gallery and natural foods restaurant Cafe Ono. The grounds include a guest cottage and an art studio.
The garden, open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is located at 19-3834 Old Volcano Road. Admission is free. Visit volcanogardenarts.com for more information.
