Learning outside school

Hualalai Academy’s sixth through 12th grade students recently participated in their annual Fall Experiential Learning trips. Over three days, students go on numerous trips by grade level.

Sixth-graders went to camp at Puuwaawaa State Park and participated in volunteer work to help replant many endangered Hawaiian trees and shrubs.

The Waipio trip for seventh-graders was in conjunction with Hawaii Wilderness Adventure Camp and one highlight was working in taro fields.

The eighth-grade trip was held at Camp Erdman on Oahu and focused on team building skills, and some experiences there included a high rope challenge course and an Alpine tower — a 50-foot-tall multipurpose climbing structure.

The high school trip on Oahu included adventures like visiting the Honolulu Art Museum, attending the play “Young Frankenstein” at Manoa Valley Theatre and visiting the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus.
