Kudo wins Kealakehe Intermediate spelling bee

Seventh-grader Hope Kudo is the Kealakehe Intermediate School spelling bee champion. Hope out-spelled more than 50 of her peers.

Fellow seventh-grader Xochitl Reyes is the KIS spelling bee runner-up.

Both girls are registered to participate in the Big Island District Bee at Hawaii Preparatory Academy Saturday.

The district winner will proceed to the state bee in March. The state winner will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.
