Oil and watercolor painter Marilyn Koschella is The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery’s featured artist for October.
Koschella’s love of painting started when, while studying costume design in college, she painted a picture of what she was designing. Over the decades she learned to create pottery, mosaic tile pictures and papier-mache projects.
Koschella first traveled to Hawaii in 1962 and immediately felt the aloha spirit. In 2008, she retired in Kailua-Kona and began to focus on painting in oils and watercolors. She’s painted with the West Hawaii Plein Air Painters since 2009. She joined Kona Arts Center in 2010 and is also a member of the Kailua Village Artists Gallery.
A reception for Koschella is slated from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at The Blue Sea Artisans Gallery in the Kona International Market, 74-5533 Luhia St. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
