It’s all about wood

Harbor Gallery in Kawaihae is holding its annual Winter Wood Show through Feb. 16. More than 50 pieces, created by more than 25 Big Island wood artists, are displayed and featured on the gallery’s website; all are available for purchase.

Ten percent of show proceeds will go to the Kohala Watershed Partnership, which is helping to restore the native forests in the watershed above Pelekane Bay to the summit of the Kohala Mountains. Gallery owners Gunner and Elli Mench have given more than $19,000 to the Kohala Watershed Partnership in the past three years, as a result of sales at their biannual wood shows.

Show attendees may vote for their favorite pieces in four categories: sculpture, joinery, turning and open. Category winners will receive a $100 prize; the overall winner will receive $250.

The show and gallery are open from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily. Reach Harbor Gallery at 882-1510 or View the show online at
