Yamasaki to discuss new land surveyor law
Chrystal Yamasaki, LPLS, with Wes Thomas Associates, will share the highlights of the recent changes made to the Hawaii Revised Statues relating to the definition of a land surveyor on Wednesday. This new legislation more fully defines the broad scope of services that must now be performed by or under the direction of a licensed professional land surveyor.
The event is hosted by the Kona Krew chapter of Business Network International, which meets from 7:45 to 9:15 a.m. at Island Naturals on Kaiwi Street in Kailua-Kona. Visitors are welcome. There is no fee to attend.

Kona Masons meet Wednesday
The Kona Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons meets Wednesday at the Kona Masonic Center located at 73-5577 Kauhola St., No. 7, in Kailua-Kona. Activities begin with dinner at 6 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7. Dessert is available afterward.
All members of the craft are invited to attend both the dinner and meeting.

Foxworthy selected officer of the month
The Kona Crime Prevention Committee honors Officer Jason Foxworthy, a four-year veteran of the Hawaii Police Department, as its Officer of the Month for July at a noon Wednesday luncheon at Huggo’s Restaurant in Kailua-Kona.
Foxworthy is a consistent producer on the watch, according to his superiors, and is being honored for his record of arrests and citations.
The Kona Crime Prevention Committee encourages and supports the police department in its efforts to prevent crime, deter potential criminals and enforce laws. The committee also provides needed police equipment for use by Kona District officers when department funds cannot support those needs.
The guest speaker will be Ken Obenski, chairman of the Kona Traffic Safety Committee. He will share the committee’s vision and mission.
The public is invited to attend the Officer of the Month luncheons normally held on the first Wednesday of each month. The cost of the luncheon is $20, all inclusive. Reservations are necessary and may be made by contacting Liz Holey at email@example.com or phone 443-7708.
Meeting focuses on geothermal, its effects
Pele Defense Fund is hosting a presentation for the community regarding geothermal and how it affects cultural practices, the people and the land beginning at 6 pm. Wednesday at the West Hawaii Civic Center, Building A, located at 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway, Kailua-Kona.

Suicide prevention group to meet
The Prevent Suicide West Hawaii Task Force meets from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday in the conference room at the West Hawaii Community Health Center on the corner of Hualalai Road and Kuakini Highway in Kailua-Kona. Anyone interested in preventing suicide in the community is welcome to attend.
