Senior ID cards to be issued in July

The Coordinated Services for the Elderly Program of the Elderly Activities Division will issue senior ID cards for seniors 60 years and older from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Kohala CSE/Courthouse.

The staff will also issue cards from 9 to 10 a.m. July 9 at the Pahala Hawaii Housing Center; 11 a.m. to noon July 9, Naalehu Community Center; 9 to 11 a.m. July 10, L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center, Waimea; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 11, Kealakekua Ranch Center; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 25, West Hawaii Civic Center gazebo; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 27, Yano Hall, Captain Cook; and 3 to 4 p.m. July 30, Hale Hauoli Senior Center, Honokaa.

Camero VFW post meets Thursday

Christopher Camero VFW Post 12122 meets at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Kona Elks Lodge. The meeting is open to all members and veterans who have seen foreign service in time of conflict.

Cancer support group meets Thursday

“You’ll Never Walk Alone,” a cancer support group, meets from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday. Cancer survivors and co-survivors are invited to attend the free meeting.

Meetings are held the first and third Thursdays of the month. Light refreshments are served.

Singles club meets for dinner

Kona Kupuna Singles Club meets for dinner at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Thai Rin Restaurant in Kailua-Kona.

Seniors planning Wednesday picnic

The Kailua-Kona Seniors will meet for a picnic and potluck at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona. Those attending are asked to wear red, white or blue clothing.

Kona Orchid Society meets Friday

The Kona Orchid Society meets at 6 p.m. Friday at the Hualalai Academy Bridge building, located at 74-4966 Kealakaa St., off Palani Road.

Guest speaker Phoenicia Zeller of Pele’s Island Plants in Ocean View will diagnose attendees’ “sad” and “unhappy” plants. If the orchids can be revived, she will let attendees know. The plants must be free of ants and other insects.

A potluck begins at 6:15. A display of members’ orchids and a drawing for plants are also planned.
