YWAM sailboat arriving Saturday
A 74-foot, 86-ton ketch, owned by YWAM SHIPS will arrive at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Kailua Pier. Descendants of Henry Opukahaia, the first Hawaiian Christian, will be on board. Kahu and Hawaiian elders will join in a welcome protocol with expressions of Hawaii’s diverse culture. The public is invited to the festivities and a dinner following the event at the former Kona Hukilau Hotel.
Some walk-through tours will be offered by YWAM SHIPS directors Brett and Karen Curtis. YWAM SHIPS, a ministry of University of the Nations, is leasing the former Hukilau Hotel — near The Fish Hopper restaurant – for use as three schools, including the School of Navigation and Seamanship.
