Seniors meeting for acupuncture presentation
Kailua-Kona Seniors meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hale Halawai in Kailua-Kona. Speaker Joy Tuttee will discuss acupuncture and its place as an alternative health care method. She will take questions after her presentation.

Kona Hongwanji Judo Club fundraiser slated Saturday
The Kona Hongwanji Judo Club will hold its annual all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast and Market Day Fundraiser Saturday on the Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple grounds in Kealakekua. Breakfast begins at 7 a.m.; market activities commence at 7:30 a.m. and will feature baked goods, musubi, manju, plants, produce, cinder, a rummage sale and a silent auction.
Donations for the rummage sale may be dropped off after 1 p.m. Friday at the social hall.

Methodist Bible school slated Saturday
Children ages 3 and older are invited to attend Kona United Methodist Church’s “Everywhere Fun Fair” vacation Bible school Saturday at the church, 74-4960 Palani Road. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The program concludes around 1 p.m. The event includes stories, crafts, games, snacks and music.

FOLK book sale scheduled Saturday
The Friends of the Libraries, Kona will hold a book sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the Kailua-Kona Public Library lanai. Proceeds from sales support the Kona libraries, with funding for items such as magazine subscriptions, summer reading programs and special events. There will be no sale in August.

United Way’s ‘Evening in Paradise’ is Saturday
Hawaii Island United Way’s 20th annual “An Evening in Paradise” is slated from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows Hale Hoaloha Pavilion. The event will feature gourmet fare prepared by the Big Island’s finest chefs. Spirits and desserts will also be offered to all attendees. Keahi Conjugacion will provide live entertainment. A silent auction of edibles and artwork is also planned.
Tickets — $85 for adults and $50 for children — are available at hiuw.org or by calling 935-6393. All forms of payment are accepted. All money raised at the event will benefit HIUW and its supported 42 Big Island partner agencies and 55 community programs.
VFW Auxiliary meeting Saturday
The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 12122 meets at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the Bridge Building at Hualalai Academy. Installation of officers and initiation of new members are on the agenda.
