Volunteers sought for billfish tourney

The Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament is seeking volunteers to help with the 54th annual tournament. A variety of support is needed, including Kailua pier operations, HIBT retail store and administration. Each volunteer receives a HIBT T-shirt and discounted parking. Positions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

HIBT event headquarters, retail and tournament control will be anchored at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. Volunteers are needed July 21 through Aug. 13.

Honokaa Hongwanji Baccalaureate slated

Honokaa Hongwanji’s 50th annual Baccalaureate, honoring the first Honokaa High and Intermediate School graduating class, 1938, and this year’s seniors, begins at 5 p.m. Saturday. Graduates will thank teachers who helped them along the way. Dinner will be served after the service. The event is free and open to the public.

Relay for Life team captains meet today

People passionate about saving lives from cancer are encouraged to become Relay for Life team captains. A meeting for those interested begins at 5:30 p.m. today at the West Hawaii Civic Center’s Liquor Control Conference Room in Building B. Hui Laulima meeting Friday

West Hawaii Hui Laulima meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon Friday at the West Hawaii Community Health Center Community Meeting Room.

A representative of the Workforce Development Division of the state Department of Labor will provide information on the following programs and services: Volunteer Internship Program, the Employment Training Fund and the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Program. Additionally, information will be provided on the online job search engine HireNet Hawaii, labor market statistics and career information.

Annamari Dietrichson is founder and director of Deep & Beyond Inc., a nonprofit serving people with disabilities and disadvantaged youth through outdoor activities and education. She will speak about Snorkel Day and Adventure Camps and share the history of the organization and its plans for the future.
