Senior ID cards will be distributed in January

The Coordinated Services for the Elderly Program of the Elderly Activities Division will issue senior ID cards for seniors 60 years and older from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kealakekua Ranch Center in Captain Cook.

The staff will also issue cards from 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 9 at the Kohala CES/Courthouse; 9 to 10 a.m. Pahala Housing Center; 11 a.m. to noon, Naalehu Community Center; 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 10, L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center, Waimea; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 18, West Hawaii Civic Center, Kailua-Kona; and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 27, Yano Hall, Captain Cook.

Hospital auxiliary sets annual meeting

The Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary is inviting all volunteers, guests and potential volunteers to its annual membership meeting where Sen. Josh Green, D-West Hawaii, will be the guest speaker and Kathryn Harter, chief nurse, will discuss the new medical van.

State representative speaking to hui

West Hawaii Hui Laulima meets from 10:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 6 at the West Hawaii Community Health Center, 75-5751 Kuakini Highway, Kailua-Kona. The hui welcomes Rep. Cindy Evans, D-North Kona, South Kohala, for a legislative update. She will also gather concerns and recommendations from West Hawaii service providers.

All social service providers are encouraged to attend. Meeting with Evans offers the opportunity to explore ideas about strengthening laws, continuing to provide safe and proper care for residents of West Hawaii. The meeting will allow three minutes for each provider to share concerns and recommendations.

The hui is a consortium of West Hawaii's major health and human service providers, faith-based groups, community associations, businesses, government and concerned individuals. It was formed in September 1999 to encourage collaboration particularly around matters affecting youth and families. There are more than 45 organizations and individuals in the hui.

Cancer support group meeting Thursday

"You'll Never Walk Alone," a cancer support group, meets from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday. The group is open to all cancer survivors and co-survivors.

Meetings are held the first and third Thursdays of the month. There is no fee and light refreshments are served.

Electronic music festival coming to Kailua-Kona Jan. 6

Big Island Love presents the ninth Hawaii Electronic Music Festival beginning at 8 p.m. Jan. 6 at the ReMixx Lounge in Kailua-Kona. The festival is a gathering of visionary artists who share the love for the Island and passion for life.

Festival artists include Big Island artists Evan Marc Bartholomew aka Bluetech, Ricardo Rodrigues Feher aka Polyrhythmic, Sky Makai, Craig Kohland aka Shaman's Dream, Tai Blackford aka Tai Sun, Anne Nutall aka Annabelle, Chris Smith and Brian Lamb aka Unit:E. Other performers include Neil Kurland from Baltimore; Samantha Kern aka Sassmouth from London; Elisableth Howland aka EH3 and Adam Stolz, from Chicago; Jake Penn aka Mumukshu from Minneapolis; and Maui artists Glenn Grillo aka Arcane, Toben Lindell and Trevor Arnholt aka Merkaba.

Admission is $10 at the door. No one younger than 21 will be admitted.
