‘3D Sun’ showing at Imiloa

Imiloa Astronomy Center offers visitors a stereo view of the sun with its planetarium show “3D Sun” shown at 3 p.m. daily, beginning Saturday.

“3D Sun” gives audiences the chance to see the sun up close in high-definition 3D. Stand above the Arctic Circle and witness the most brilliant auroras on Earth. Take a ride on a solar blast from sun’s surface to Earth’s magnetosphere. Witness the most powerful explosions in the solar system, equal to the force of a billion megaton nuclear bombs.

Imiloa continues to offer its signature show, “Maunakea: Between Earth and Sky,” at 1 p.m. and “Awesome Light I: Big Mirrors on the Mountain,” a 3D offering, at 2 p.m. daily.

Makaeo cleanup slated Saturday

Friends for Fitness will sponsor a cleanup at the Old Kona Airport Park’s Makaeo Jogging Path from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers shoudl meet at the entrance by the water fountain. Garden tools and light refreshments will be provided.

Libraries host qigong instruction

Qigong instructor and Eden energy medicine practitioner Maryna Allan will share exercises to improve health and well-being from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Kailua-Kona Public Library. Allan will repeat the program from 5 to 6 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Kealakekua Public Library.

Allan’s five-minute daily routine is aimed to increase energy levels, optimize vitality, relieve pain, improve sleep and alleviate stress. The class is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels.

VFW Post 12122 meets Saturday

Christopher Camero VFW Post 12122 meets at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Elks Lodge in Kailua-Kona. Attendance is important since the group will discuss preparations for June’s state convention, Memorial Day plans and inspection by the department. If unable to attend, call Dick Skarnes at 329-6261.

The Ladies Auxiliary will meet Jan. 19 at the Elks Lodge.

Meditation with Harrison is Jan. 6

Gavin Harrison will lead a session of sitting and walking meditation, dialogue and inquiry from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Waiaka Events Salon, 66-1664 Waiaka St., Waimea. Groups are nondenominational and open to all. Meditation guidance is offered to the inexperienced. Bring a meditation cushion; chairs are available. Harrison accepts donations to help cover his living expenses.
