Employment Law Seminar is Oct. 18
Sponsored by Torkildson Katz Moore Hetherington & Harris, Attorneys at Law, the 2013 Hawaii Employment Law Seminar is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 18 at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.
Those attending will learn the implications of the latest law, legislative changes and administrative developments in matters critical to employers. Attendees will learn how to navigate today’s most pressing labor and employment issues.
The registration fee includes continental breakfast, lunch, a hard copy of “The 2013-14 Chamber Desk Manual: Labor and Employment Law for Hawaii Employers” and one-year subscription to the online version. Fees are $325 for chamber members and Society for Human Resource Management members and $375 for nonmembers. The second attendee from a single business receives a $25 discount. The third and subsequent attendee from a single business receives a $50 discount. No refunds or cancellations will be taken after Monday and no-shows will be charged.

Wille to address Soroptimists
Soroptimist International of Kona meets at 5 p.m. Monday at the West Hawaii Civic Center Community Meeting Hale, Building G.
The meeting will focus on breast cancer and Soroptimist programs Councilwoman Margaret Wille will also speak.
The organization has been serving women and girls of Hawaii and victims of gender-based violence since 1971. Call 937-0312 for more information.
Garden program focuses on hala tree
The hala tree is one of the most important trees in the Hawaiian culture. The public is invited to learn its many traditional uses, how to prepare leaves for weaving and create a bracelet from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Amy B.H. Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden in Captain Cook. The cost is $10 for Bishop Museum members, $15 for nonmembers. Class size limited to 15.
