A high wind warning is in effect until 6 p.m. for Big Island summits, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.
The service forecast northerly winds of 45 mph with gusts topping 60 mph for the Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea summits.
A high wind warning for the summits means winds of at least 40 mph, or gust of at least 60 mph, are forecast. Residents are urged to secure and protect property. Travel to the summit areas should be delayed until the winds subside.
