On July 13, the Mardi Gras Golf Tournament at Waikoloa Village golf course marked its 30th year of helping the American Cancer Society to “finish the fight” against cancer and continue its support for the cancer patients of West Hawaii. Thanks to founder and organizer Bert Roussel, his assistant Judy Alderson, and the support of a wonderful community of caring friends and businesses, the Mardi Gras Golf Tournament will donate more than $27,000 from this year’s tournament.
Over 30 years, almost $400,000 has been raised at this popular tournament. Golfers come from various places, including the mainland and other countries. Roussel has dedicated himself to making sure the 70 golfers touched by cancer past and present are remembered and that every golfer goes home a winner. This year’s 156 golfers left with a door prize and memories of a chance to win a $5,000 putting contest and the helicopter ball drop of 1,500 balls to win a trip to Las Vegas with a three-day stay, fine jewelry, boat trips and dining experiences.
Roussel has put a lot of heart and hard work into the Mardi Gras Golf Tourament to benefit the West Hawaii community of cancer patients and caregivers. The American Cancer Society thanks and applauds champions like Roussel and all the generous supporters and businesses of West Hawaii.
