Overtime milking a double whammy
I have to comment on the front page article on Tuesday, April 5. The headline read “County overtime up.”
I wish more would pay attention to the details of this. All of the 25 positions listed with annual compensation ranging from$99,000 to $205,013 are management positions. These are individuals who have people under them who are expected to dotheir job in a 40-hour week. Yet these managers are content to milk the overtime to line their own pockets.
It should be noted as well that in Hawaii overtime is calculated into a public employee’s pension. Consequently, the taxpayersin this state are going to be paying for this abuse for a long time. I realize there are county managers and administrators whoare willing to work overtime without additional compensation. I just wish there were more of them.
