    Tutu’s Quilters meets every Monday from 9:30 a.m.—noon, led by Kathy Lukens. This get-together is open to everyone from experienced to beginners as a chance to learn and practice quilting Hawaiian style. Initial supplies are provided or participants can bring something they are working on. Good company and encouragement are guaranteed.

    Advanced Ukulele is held every Tuesday from 9:30—11 a.m. with Aunty Marjie Spencer. Experienced players of all ages are welcome to bring their ukulele and join in a morning of friendship and song.

    Teen Texting, Snapchat and Other Sexualized Social Media will be addressed from 5:30-7 p.m. tonight by Amanda Alvarado with the YWCA of Hawaii Island’s Sexual Assault Support Services Program. She will talk about how technology is moving faster than ever before, and how the law has not kept up with it. The program will begin with a short film titled “Sext Up KIDS: How Children are becoming Hypersexualized,” followed by a discussion on how this applies to youth on Hawaii Island. Learn the effects of social media applications on youth’s brain development and how youth are being pressured into “sexting” and the legal implications. If possible, call ahead to make a reservation at 885-6777.

    What is Probate? with John G. Roth, attorney with Hawaii Trust &Law Counsel, will be presented from 4-5:30 p.m. this Wednesday, and again Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The word probate often sends a shiver down the spine. It actually serves an important purpose of distributing a deceased person’s assets, but is widely misunderstood.

    Aston Fitness Floor Work will be offered from noon-1:30 p.m. this Wednesday, with Judith Aston, a pioneer in the field of movement education and bodywork. Come and review or come and be new. Optimize daily actions applied to sitting, bending, lifting, walking and reaching. This class welcomes new and returning participants. A review of class content and new content will be presented.     Cancer Support Group for Women will meet from 12:30—2 p.m. this Wednesday. Whether a survivor, currently in treatment, recently diagnosed, or coping with the effects of cancer on a loved one, all are invited to join this group to discover the power of healing through connection with others who share a common bond.

    Aloha Kidney • Kidney Disease Education Series will be from 1-3:30 p.m. Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26 with Ramona Wong MD, a retired nephrologist. These classes will be taught live from Oahu by webinar for those interested in, at risk for, or living with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Often, people make choices that unknowingly nudge them towards chronic disease. Hawaii has a high rate of CKD, mostly preventable. Once the impact of choices made on mind, spirit and body are understood, it’s possible to live mindfully ever after.

    Chair Tai Chi – Chi Kung will be offered from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Oct. 2 with Madeline Sofranac, a doctor of physical therapy. Enjoy simple, effective, hand and leg movements, postures, gentle deep breathing and pressure point techniques while remaining seated in a chair. Tai Chi–Chi Kung movements emphasize flow of internal energy to improve organ function, range of motion, blood pressure balance and overall physical and mental well-being. This class works well for seniors, physically challenged persons and folks recovering from surgeries or living with injuries.

    Yoga Basics with Janet Lam will meet from 8—9 a.m. Sept. 18 and 25. Start the week feeling balanced, flexible and strong. This class includes fundamental yoga poses, and although not specifically a beginner’s class, the movement sequence can easily accommodate students new to yoga or returning to a yoga practice.

    Living Astrology: Compassion in Action will be hosted from 4-5:30 p.m. Aug. 21 by Kauakea Winston, astrologer and energy healer. Attend this program for an interactive, playful time to understand the power of the zodiac on the day of the solar eclipse. Look at the 12 stages of astrology and how they relate to human developmental stages. Kauakea uses fun visuals and movement to make this learning easy and lively. Bring a meditation cushion if you have one.

    Ancient Yoga with Deanna Olivier will meet from 11 a.m.-noon Aug. 16 and 30. This practice includes physical, mental and spiritual discipline for developing awareness, character and consciousness. It is an integrated system of exercise, breath control and meditation that combines yoga postures with breathing techniques for a vigorous workout. Bring water, a yoga mat if possible and a towel. Wear loose clothing.
