Parker School hosts alumni reunion

WAIMEA — More than 50 alumni, former faculty and current employees gathered for Parker School’s alumni reunion Aug. 6. Graduates and families from the class of 1984 through the class of 2016 came together to tour the school, reminisce through past yearbooks and catch up with one another on the school’s front porch.

    Rocky Mountain College is pleased to announce the spring semester dean’s list that includes students who maintained a 3.60 to 3.99 GPA. Kamuela resident Dyllon Ching was among the students noted.

    On May 13, on the Worcester Polytechnic Institute campus quadrangle, more than 1,000 bachelor’s degrees were awarded during the university’s 149th commencement ceremony. Amanda Agdeppa of Honokaa earned a bachelor of science degree in biomedical engineering, with high distinction.

    Sarah Lynn Willey of Kamuela was awarded a bachelor of arts degree from Connecticut College at the 99th commencement ceremony May 21. She majored in biological sciences.

    Culver-Stockton College proudly announced its honor roll for the spring 2017 semester last week, with Keana Kaohimaunu of Honokaa named to the list.

    WAIMEA — With the conclusion of Waimea All-School Art Exhibit yesterday at Isaacs Art Center, “Papa Lehua” was named winner in the “Best Themed Art Piece” category. The hands of every child in Kanu o ka Aina grade 2/3 contributed to the piece.

    WAIMEA — Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Lower School Student Council, with assistance from advisor Rachel Baydo, planned and held a Walk-a-Thon in early April on the Village Campus. The event raised more than $6,000 to help fund the rebuilding of Anuenue Playground in Waimea.

    HONOKAA — Last Saturday, the Honokaa swimming pool hosted the Big Island Regional Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) competition.

    The University of Montana Western named 544 students to the 2017 spring semester dean’s list. Among those students was Kamuela resident Julie Gregg. To achieve this honor, students must be enrolled full-time or for 12 semester credits and carry a minimum 3.33 grade point average.

    KOHALA COAST — Twenty-one Hawaii Preparatory Academy seniors, along with their teachers, Hapuna Beach State Park staff and Keep Puako Beautiful volunteers, participated in a beach cleanup at the Hapuna Beach State Recreational area last Tuesday.

    WAIMEA — Sidney Vermeulen, a senior at Hawaii Preparatory Academy, was named one of 723 semifinalists to advance in the final round of the 2017 U.S. Presidential Scholars competition.

    Emily Johnson, the child of Scott and Zoe Johnson of Waimea, graduated cum laude from Macalester College on May 13. She received a liberal arts degree in biology and is a Hawaii Preparatory Academy alum.

    WAIMEA — Waimea Country School warmly welcomes Will Sanchez as the new kindergarten/first-grade multi-age teacher beginning in the 2017/2018 school year. He will replace Marcie Neubecker, one of the small school’s three full-time faculty, who is leaving the position after 11 years on staff.
