Grammy-winning Honokaa High Jazz Band goes to Maui

HONOKAA — This Thursday through Sunday, Honokaa High School Jazz Band will perform on Maui and Lanai to celebrate National Jazz Appreciation Month, which culminates in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO) International Jazz Day on April 30.

    WAIMEA — More than 600 students in grades K-12, parents and employees gathered in Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Castle Gym on Jan. 23 to celebrate the school’s Blue Zones Project Approved Status. The school achieved this milestone by completing the Blue Zones Project School Pledge.

    WAIMEA — Gregory Parks, an eighth grader at Hawaii Preparatory Academy, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on Jan. 19 and a chance at a $50,000 college scholarship.

    WAIMEA — Construction on the $16 million, 9-classroom STEAM building at Waimea Middle School is progressing, with much of the exterior nearly completed now. The 24,000-square-foot, two-story facility — including three science labs — is expected to be completed in May, with classes beginning this fall for the 2017-18 school year.

    WAIMEA — Waimea Country School (WCS), Hawaii Preparatory Academy (HPA) and Parker School — three independent, private schools in Waimea — have announced Feb. 6 as their common priority deadline for applications for the 2017-18 school year. The three schools have aligned due dates in an effort to simplify the process for families applying to multiple schools.
