Reliving the elegance of old Hawaii: Waimea Hawaiian Homesteaders Association’s 5th Annual Kuhio Ball

WAIMEA — The Waimea Hawaiian Homesteaders Association’s fifth Annual Kuhio Ball will take place March 26 from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at Pukalani Stables. The event is held in honor of Prince Kuhio Kalanianaole, whose love for the land and the Hawaiian people inspired him to spearhead the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1921.

    WAIMEA — Construction on the Waimea District Park continues, with the frame of the initial structure visible from Ala Ohia Road. A metal roof in nearly completed on one side of the covered play courts building that can be seen from the southeast side of town, atop exposed beams.

    More than 100 skateboarders, rollerskaters and bike riders gathered for an all-day event on June 19 in Kapaau. The morning began with a parade that took a downhill cruise on highway 270 to Kamehameha Park.
