A lava flow that could threaten the Pahoa area may have stalled, according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
A flight over the area Wednesday showed no sign of activity at the edge of the flow, though scientists say more observations are needed.
Janet Babb, HVO geologist, said it may have stalled or it may have just gone deeper into a crack.
“There is some uncertainty exactly what that means,” she said.
HVO plans to fly over the area again around noon, Babb said.
The flow, which is about 2 miles from the Kaohe Homesteads neighborhood, has been watched closely since it was labeled as a “potential concern” by geologists Friday.
Hawaii County Civil Defense will host another meeting on the flow at 6:30 p.m. today at the Pahoa Community Center.
