HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii Gov. David Ige and United Public Workers have settled a dispute over union contracts as Kaiser Foundation Hospitals takes control of state hospitals in Maui County.
The governor’s office said Friday the agreement resolves the union’s lawsuit and class action grievance against the state.
UPW state director Dayton Nakanelua said in a statement the governor is honoring the existing collective bargaining agreement.
The deal says UPW workers will be covered by their existing contracts through next June, but they will be working under Kaiser’s supervision and direction.
The agreement doesn’t resolve a separate dispute over severance and retirement benefits for Hawaii Government Employees’ Association workers at the hospitals.
