Paulette Carreira Luiz, 63, of Papaikou died June 17, 2014, at her residence. Born Dec. 31, 1950, in Hilo, she was a waitress for Miwa’s and Osaka Restaurant in Hilo and member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Papaikou.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. June 29 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by son, Elliot Fernandez of Washington; brothers, George (Marcy) Luiz and Michael (Aza) Luiz, both of Washington, David (Audrey) Luiz of Papaikou; three grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Linda Silva

Linda Christine Silva, 65, of Pahoa died June 22, 2014, at home. Born Feb. 1, 1949, in Honolulu, she was a homemaker.

Friends may call 1 p.m. June 28 at 16-2116 Lehua Drive, Pahoa, for a celebration of life. Inurnment will be at noon June 30 at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by husband, Joseph Silva Jr. of Pahoa; sons, Anthony (Darnell Haraguchi) Menzsa and Joseph (Danielle Silvas) Silva III of Pahoa, Jeffrey (Erica) Menzsa of Volcano; daughters, Cheryl (Richard Jones) Menzsa of Honolulu, Dawn (Gavien) DeMello of Hilo, Kathy (Brandon) Andrade of Pahoa; brothers, John (Debbie) Pina Jr. of Hawaiian Beaches, Archie Pina of Hilo; sisters, MaryAnn Jaentsch of Hawaiian Acres, Phylis Segawa of Volcano; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Manuel Kaapana Jr.

Manuel “Manny” Yona Kaapana Jr., 77, of Keaau died June 20, 2014, at his home in Paradise Park. Born Feb. 4, 1937, in Pahala, he retired as a truck driver for Kuwaye Trucking and played softball in the kupuna league for Hui O Na Kalohe.

Friends may call at 2 p.m. July 26 at the family home in Panaewa.

He is survived by wife, Sally Kaapana of Keaau; son, Camron (Cheryl) Kaapana of California; daughters, Nani Kaapana of Kona, Caroline (Susu) Kaapana of Hilo; stepdaughter, Patti (Del) Lanhart of Washington; sisters, Mildred Naeole of Maui, Edwina Desmon of Kansas; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dorothy Pavao

Dorothy Kathlyne Pavao, 76, of Keaau died June 12, 2014, at her residence. Born in Missouri, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by husband, Richard Pavao of Keaau; daughters, Susan (Brian) Sweeney of Kapolei, Oahu, Cathy (Rob) Webb of Millsboro, Ohio; son, David (Cindy) Pavao of Seattle; three grandchildren.

Jefferson Falkner

Jefferson “Jeff” Robert Falkner, 85, died June 15, 2014, at his residence. Born Aug. 18, 1928, in Bessemer, Ala., he was owner of Jm Enterprises, a fruit and flower grower, retired electronics engineer, Korean War Marine Corps veteran and member of the Camp Tarawa Detachment No. 1255, Marine Corps League.

He is survived by wife, Marianne Falkner of Waikoloa; sons, Jeff (Becky) Falkner Jr. of Newbury Park, Calif., Sean (Karen) Falkner of Long Beach Calif.; daughters, Lucia (Lance) Loughlin of California, Maurya (John) Freckman of Smartville, Calif.; stepsons, Marshall (Janice) Tate and Steven Tate, both of Big Sky, Mont.; stepdaughter, Leslie (Bob) Grau of Orange, Calif.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; two nephews; one niece.

Dawn Tilman

Dawn Tilman, 77, of Orchidland Estates died June 2, 2014, in Hilo. Born Nov. 9, 1936, in Las Vegas, she was a member of the California Bar and practiced law in California and for the federal government until she retired as an administrative judge for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

She is survived by husband, William Elston; children, Ellen Crane, Bonnie Scott, Paul Scott, Stephanie Elston, Brynn Elston, William Elston; siblings, Rick Tilman, Kathleen Tilman, Tim Tilman, Paul Tilman; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Linda Robertson

Linda M. Robertson, 73, died May 9, 2014, at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born Dec. 24, 1940, in Englewood, N.J., she was a banking operations manager and retired from Bank of America, worked with St. James Episcopal Church in Waimea, and worked with Marshallese children in an after-school program.

She is survived by husband, Thomas Robertson; sons, Michael Robertson, Casey Robertson; stepson, Michael Robertson; stepdaughter, LeeAnn Atwood; seven grandchildren.

Orman Hon

Orman “Bud” Archie Hon, 85, of Hilo died June 15, 2014, at his residence. Born in Denver, he was a retired manufacturer representative.

He is survived by wife, Barbara Hon of Hilo; sons, David Hon of Layton, Utah, Kenneth (Cheryl Gansecki) Hon of Hilo, Larry (Diana Talcott) Hon of Portland, Ore.; sister, Erna Lou Pyle of Denver; two granddaughters.

Sandra Johnson

Sandra Fae Johnson, 69, of Kailua-Kona died June 8, 2014. Born Aug. 7, 1944, in Chico, Calif., she was a registered nurse, homemaker and attended Cornerstone Christian Fellowship Church.

Private services will be held. Donations may be made to the American Red Cross in her name.

She is survived by husband, Stephen Johnson; son, David (Amanda) Pinkston of Redding, Calif.; daughter, Kimberly Brown of Chico, Calif.; brother, Gary (Mary Ann) Fosmire of State College, Pa.; four grandchildren.

Valentina Lorenzo

Valentina Lorenzo, 92, of Kealakekua died June 3, 2014, at Life Care Center in Hilo. Born June 14, 1921, in Puerto Rico, she was a retired coffee picker in Kona.

She is survived by sons, Alan (Yzette) Dalao of Hilo, Albert Dalao of Tennessee; daughter, Veronica Carvalho of Hilo; sister, Katherine (John) Correira of Hilo; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Masaichi Fukushima

Masaichi “Masa” Fukushima, 68, of Captain Cook died May 26, 2014, at Kona Community Hospital. Born July 23, 1945, in Honaunau, he was a coffee and macadamia nut farmer and also retired from KTA Kailua-Kona.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts.

He is survived by sisters, Matsuno Katz of Las Vegas, Sanae (Sueto) Matsumura of Kealakekua; brothers, Katsuyoshi Fukushima and Koichi (Joan) Fukushima, both of Captain Cook, John (Betty) Fukushima of North Carolina; one uncle; one aunt; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bruce Smith

Bruce Tory Smith, 69, of Keaau died June 11, 2014, at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama facility. Born in Tacoma, Wash., he was a retired pilot, car driver and Korean War Army veteran.

Private services were held.

He is survived by daughter, Dena Smith of Pahoa; son, Brian Smith of San Diego; brother, Harvey Smith of Anchorage, Alaska; seven grandchildren; one niece; one nephew.

William McGeachy

William Thomas “Tom” McGeachy, 63, of Kailua-Kona died June 12, 2014. Born in 1950 in Bozeman, Mont., he was an artist and woodworker.

Simplicio Tabac

Simplicio Tabac, 88, of Honokaa died June 7, 2014, at home. Born in Puunene, Maui, he was a retired building maintenance supervisor for the Honokaa State Hospital, a television repairman, World War II Air Force veteran and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa and the National Rifle Association.

Private services were held.

He is survived by wife, Demetria Tabac of Honokaa; sons, Jonathan (Ivy) Tabac and Eric Tabac, both of Honokaa; brothers, Amador Tabac of Paauhau, James (Sally) Tabac of Honolulu; sisters, Herminia Villa and Anita (Jim Powers) Tabac-Powers, both of Honokaa, Rosita Ebreo of Paauilo, Beatrice Tabac of Waimea, Marina (Nelson) Silva of Kauai; two granddaughters; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
