Phyllis Mae Kansana, 62, of Hilo died Dec. 24, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired office assistant with Sears Roebuck &Co. and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Hauoli Hoaloha Motorcycle Club.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 9 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for a 10:30 a.m. service. Burial follows at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

Joseph Lorenzo Jr.

Joe Joseph Frank Lorenzo Jr., 75, of Hilo died Dec. 28, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 14, 1938, in Pahala, he was a bookkeeper for J.J. Bookkeeper Services, a clerk for the Department of Human Services, school crossing guard at Waiakeawaena School in Hilo, and Army veteran and member of Hawaii Government Employees Association.

Robert Nakamura

Robert Seizo Nakamura, 75, of Las Vegas and Honolulu, died Dec. 30, 2013, at Queen’s Medical Center. Born in Kealakekua, he was vice president of finance at American Honda Finance Corp.

Dominga Santiago, 91, of Keaau died Dec. 18, 2013, at her residence. Born Nov. 26, 1922, in Pepeekeo, she was a homemaker, laborer for the former Wailea Sugar Co. in Hakalau and member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in Hilo.

Pamela Young

Pamela Darlene Leinaala Kapoi Young, 65, of Waimea died Dec. 27, 2013. Born Jan. 9, 1948, on Oahu, she was a manager at Cattleman’s Steakhouse in Waimea and a longtime cook and baker, most recently at the Hilton Waikoloa Village.

Friends may call at 1 p.m. Jan. 9 at New Hope Church in Waimea for a 2 p.m. service. A celebration of life will follow at the Young residence at 64-1004 Maluiaenapu’u Place, behind Environet. Family requests casual attire be worn.

Andrew Martin Bachesta Jr., 80, of Pahoa died Dec. 31, 2013. Born in Missouri, he was a retired engineer at the Hilo Airport Post Office and a Navy veteran.

Louisa “Neng” “Apo” Cadabona, 86, of Papaaloa died Dec. 21, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 10, 1927, in Honohina, Hakalau, she was a laundry worker for Arc of Hilo.

Bennett Kanichi Ohta, 78, of Holualoa died Oct. 26, 2013, in Culver City, Calif. He was born Dec. 20, 1934, in Holualoa.

Julian C. Velez Jr., 80, of Glenwood died Dec. 6, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born May 17, 1933, in Kohala, he worked for Kohala Sugar Co.

Dolores Ida

Dolores Nakako Ida, 89, of Hilo died Dec. 20, 2013, at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born April 8, 1924, in Wahiawa, Kauai, she was a homemaker and member of Waiokeola Congregational Church.

She is survived by sons, Dennis (Sherri) Ida of Hilo, Gerald (Aimee) Ida of Lawai, Kauai; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Donna Murphy

Donna Marie Murphy, 52, of Keaau died Dec. 21, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. She was born June 1, 1961, in Whittier, Calif.

Hiroshi Nozawa, 93, of Glenwood died Dec. 22, 2013. Born in Glenwood, he was a retired maintenance worker for Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Rochelle Ashikawa

Rochelle Akie Ashikawa, 91, of Keauhou died Dec. 19, 2013, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born Sept. 5, 1922, in Holualoa, she was a land developer with Kona Scenic Land, a farmer, member of Daifukuji Soto Mission, honorary member of the Kona Rotary Club, University of Extension Club and a former 4-H leader.

Private services were held.

She is survived by husband, Gilbert Ashikawa of Holualoa; son, Gary Ashikawa of Honolulu; daughters, Amy Hata of Holualoa, Faye (Terry) McComas of Kealakekua; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
