Marcelina Acorda

Marcelina “Inang” Cadiz Acorda, 87, of Honokaa died Dec. 27, 2013, at home. Born June 2, 1926, in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a homemaker, vegetable farmer and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Jan. 5 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa for a 6 p.m. rosary. Friends may call again at 8 a.m. Jan. 6 at the church for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will be at Honokaa Catholic Cemetary. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by daughters, Lapaz Altura and Norma Failano, both of Honokaa, Fely (Joseph) Torres of Waimea, Fraxie Simeon of Keaau, Leticia (Charles) Mathieu of Hilo, Teresa (Jereme) Weems of California; sons, Felimon (Janet) Acorda of Kailua-Kona, Peter (Yolanda) Acorda of California, John (Ester) Acorda of Paauilo; sisters, Eufrosenia Cadiz DelaCruz, Anastacia Cadiz Dayrit, Agustina Cadiz Acosta and Lilia Cadiente, all of the Phillippines, Visanta (Silverio) Macuray of Honokaa, Ofelia (Fred) Manibog and Mayrose Cadiz, both of Kauai; brother, Manuel (Rosita) Cadiente of Philippines; 26 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Fumiko Arakaki

Fumiko “Dorothy” Arakaki, 87, of Hilo died Dec. 31, 2013, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born Aug. 4, 1926, in Holualoa, she was retired from the former Hilo Hospital as a licensed practical nurse and member of Hilo Hooganji Mission and Haili Kumiai.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Jan. 8 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 10 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by son, Carl (Joyce) Arakaki of Hilo; daughter, Lynette (Newton) Egusa of Hilo; brothers, Tadashi (Katherine) Ogi and Paul Ogi, both of Honolulu; sister, Clara Takata of Kohala; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Ahlana Lapre

Ahlana R.L.A.L. Lapre, 2, died Dec. 20, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. She was born in San Diego.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. Jan. 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Church for a 9:30 a.m. eulogy and 10 a.m. Mass. Family requests aloha attire be worn.

She is survived by parents, Eric Lapre and Hillary Gomes of Hilo; paternal grandmother, Carolynn (Roy Rodrigues) Lapre of Pahoa; maternal grandmother, Luana Hiro Gomes of Hilo; paternal grandfather, Eric Gomes of Hilo; paternal great-grandmother, Nelly Lapre of California; maternal great-grandmother, Ah Lan Hiro of Hilo; numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

Brenda Rice

Brenda Mary Rice, 70, of Kailua-Kona died Nov. 24, 2013, at her home. Born March 12, 1943, in Dublin, she was retired from a career in the restaurant business and a homemaker.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Jan. 8 at the Holy Ghost Church in Kula, Maui, for a service. Family requests aloha attire be worn.

She is survived by daughters, Mavourneen (Steve) Wilcox of Holualoa, Lily Coullahan of Aspen, Colo.; sisters, Sheila White and Mavourneen Lester, both of London; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous family members.

Kelvin Kaneshiro

Kelvin “Kel” Shizuo Kaneshiro, 57, of Hilo died Dec. 21, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was an automotive mechanic and tow truck operator.

He is survived by sons, Al (Michelle Weber) Kaneshiro of Kihei, Maui, Kelvin Kaneshiro of Kohala; daughter, Kelsey Kaneshiro of Hilo; mother, Sueko Kaneshiro of Hilo; brothers, Lloyd (Linda) Kaneshiro, Kenn (Gladys) Kaneshiro and Wade (Nancy) Kaneshiro, all of Hilo; sister, Suellen (Leonard) Tanaka of Hilo; two granddaughters; nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Tetsuo Ogata

Tetsuo Ogata, 73, of Hilo died Dec. 9, 2013, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born in Hilo, he was a retired caretaker at Mauna Kea State Park and an Army veteran.

He is survived by wife, Angeline Ogata of Hilo; sister, Leiko Ogata of Hilo; stepchildren, McGavin Supnet of Hilo, Ursula Supnet of Honolulu, Sandra (Tom) McAuliffe of Kurtistown, Lisa (Dan) Berg of Waikoloa, Beatrice (Ben) Amay of Volcano; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Robert Silverstein

Robert O. Silverstein, 63, of Pahoa died Dec. 10, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Sept. 14, 1950, in Boston, he was an author.

He is survived by daughters, Seraphina Prell of Pahoa, Cherub Silverstein, Rosey Silverstein, Jasmine Silverstein and Savana Silverstein, all of Hilo; brother, Steve (Sheila) Silverstein of Delray Beach, Fla.; sister, Joy Silverstein of Boston.

Jean Tremblay

Jean Elizabeth Tremblay, 82, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 27, 2013. Born Nov. 22, 1931, in Rapid City, S.D., she was an operations officer in the bank industry.

Private services will be held.

She is survived by husband, John Tremblay of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Joan Tremblay of Santa Barbara, Calif.; one grandchild.
