KAILUA-KONA — A family of six is displaced after their home in Ka’u was severely damaged in a fire late Wednesday morning.

The Hawaii Fire Department responded to the structure fire in Ocean View around 11 a.m. No one was home at the time.

Eighty percent of the 650-square-foot two-story home was burned, according to fire officials. It hasn’t been determined where the blaze originated, however it is currently under investigation.

Fire officials say there is nothing suspicious about the fire at this time.

Estimated damage of the property is $26,500. No other neighboring structures were damaged in the blaze and no injuries were reported.

Red Cross volunteers responded to the scene to meet with affected residents and ensure their immediate emergency needs for food, shelter and clothing are met.
