Alternating lane closures continue on Umauma Bridge in the vicinity of Hakalau continue at mile marker 16 in both directions over a 24-hour period, seven days a week for bridge rehabilitation, according to state Department of Transportation officials.
Travel speed on Umauma Bridge is reduced to 20 mph, and vehicles that exceed statutory size-weight limits will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis upon application of their respective oversize-overweight vehicle permits. Maximum width for any vehicle with permit passing over the bridge is 12 feet.
Alternating single lane closures on Hawaii Belt Road are also in effect in both directions between Kulaimano and Kauniho roads in the vicinity of Pepeekeo to Hakalau, through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for roadway improvements.
A 24-hour detour on the Keaau-Pahoa Bypass Road also remains in effect in both directions between Pahoa Marketplace and Kahakai Boulevard through May for the construction of the Pahoa Roundabout. Temporary traffic signals will be installed to direct traffic at the Kahakai Boulevard/Pahoa Village Road intersection. Motorists are advised to drive through the detour with caution.
The Bayfront Highway in Hilo will be closed to vehicular traffic from Pauahi Street to mile marker 4 on Hawaii Belt Road (also known as Highway 19) through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Wailuku Bridge repairs. Motorists will be detoured onto Kamehameha Avenue and Wailuku Drive.
Hawaii Electric Light Co. requires a partial lane closure along sections of Highway 190 from west of the Daniel K. Inouye Highway (New Saddle Road) junction at mile marker 17 to Puu Waawaa at mile marker 25 through late March.
The closure will allow crews to upgrade transmission lines and equipment. Contractors began work in early January. One lane will be closed to traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Motorists are advised to expect delays of up to 20 minutes and are encouraged to use alternate routes if possible.
