The Big Island’s confirmed dengue fever case count reached 250 Friday afternoon.
The state Department of Health said just one new case of the mosquito-borne virus was identified on the island on Friday bringing the total case count to 250. Up to three of the cases remain potentially infectious to mosquitoes. The last onset of illness occurred Feb. 1.
Health officials say that since the start of the outbreak last fall, they’ve excluded 1,109 reported cases based on test results and/or not meeting case criteria.
Civil Defense on Friday announced previously planned spraying for mosquitoes at Kealakehe Intermediate School on Saturday has been cancelled. The case that occurred in proximity to the school has been ruled out and found negative for dengue, according to the agency.
