Kailua-Kona Lions Club and its branch club, Kaloko Lions Club, dedicated their Centennial Project, a new keiki fountain at Kona Aquatic Center Wednesday. The previous fountain had deteriorated from age.

Lions Club International celebrates its 100th anniversary this year and chapters were encouraged to take on projects to benefit their communities. Club members said keiki were excited to play in the new fountain, which took months of effort to purchase and install. The Kailua-Kona club paid for the equipment and shipping while the Kaloko club handled the installation, with help of Dickinson General Contractors and Big Island Collision, who created a custom base plate to protect children from the sharp bolts. The pool was drained during installation, but volunteers worked in wet conditions as hoses and sprinklers were used to keep the special, non-slip surface of the pool wet.
