On Feb. 20, Kalaemano Interpretive Center hosted Ocean Solutions. This gathering demonstrated the potential to bridge traditional ecological knowledge with modern technology for ocean stewardship, conservation and community development. High school kiha, or peer leader, Brendon Nakata, with the help of intermediate haumana, led a conversation on the importance of perpetuating the practice of paakai, or salt gathering, and Na Kahumoku’s experience learning the practice over the past year.
