The Coordinated Services for the Elderly Program of the county Elderly Activities Division will issue senior ID cards for people age 60 and over from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 3 at the Aging & Disability Resource Center conference room.
The staff will also issue cards from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 2 at Kailua-Kona Walmart; from 11 a.m. to noon Sept. 8 at Naalehu Community Center; from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 8 at Kohala SCE, also known as the former Bank of Hawaii building; from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 9 at L. Yoshimatsu Senior Center in Waimea; from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 19 at Yano Hall; from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 24 at West Hawaii Civic Center Building B; and from 3 to 4 p.m. Sept. 29 at Hale Hauoli Senior Center in Honokaa.

Technology for seniors discussed
The Senior Roundtable Hui will discuss aging and technology choices at its meeting from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Pink Mocha Cafe above Home Depot.
The group will talk about iPads, iPhones, laptops, pendants and more. The hui is a gathering of seniors, family members, those in the aging industry and anyone interested in aging issues. The group meets on the first Tuesday of every month. The format for the first hour is on the monthly topic with the last half hour dedicated to a question and answer session that may cover other aging issues.

End of World War II commemorated Tuesday on Oahu
On Sept. 2, 1945, the battles of World War II officially ended in Tokyo Bay on the decks of the USS Missouri and peace was restored to the world.
On Tuesday, 69 years after history’s most destructive war concluded, the Battleship Missouri Memorial will commemorate the anniversary with a ceremony on the Mighty Mo’s fantail, starting at 8 a.m. Rear Admiral Robert P. Girrier, deputy commander and chief of staff for the U.S. Pacific Fleet, will present the keynote address.
The ceremony will also feature music by the Marine Forces Pacific Band, a joint service color guard, and a 21-gun salute. The ceremony is free and open to the public. Complimentary round-trip shuttle service for the ceremony will be offered from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center beginning at 7 a.m.
Following the ceremony, guests are invited to view the unveiling of the newly renovated wardroom, which is being restored to its 1991 operational condition, when the USS Missouri was last in service.
The Battleship Missouri Memorial is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the summer and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. the rest of the year. General admission, which includes an optional tour is $25 per adult and $13 per child ages 4 to 12. Military, kamaaina and school group pricing is available.

Words and Wine scheduled Tuesday
Authors authors Justina Taft and Joe Holt will be featured during Kona Stories Book Shop’s Words and Wine event at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Keauhou Shopping Center. Also, musician Sue Garrod will give a presentation about Duke Ellington.
Raised in Hawaii, Taft earned her PhD in theatre and will present her first novel, “After Dawn.”
As a patriot supporter of the Vietnam Brotherhood, as well as the historian and sergeant at arms of the American Legion, Holt has recorded veteran’s stories to help preserve America’s rich national past. He will present “I Can’t Tell My Kids Yet.”
