Caregiving classes planned
To help family caregivers cope with the demands of caring for their loved ones with chronic medical conditions, Hawaii Community Caregiver Network is sponsoring free Powerful Tools for Caregivers classes beginning this Tuesday and continuing every Tuesday until Aug. 16. Classes will be held from 5-7 p.m. at Hawaii Office on Aging, Building B, at West Hawaii Civic Center.
Attendance is required at all six classes. A $25 deposit for course materials will be collected at the first class and refunded upon completion of the series.

AARP Smart Driver class planned
An AARP Smart Driver class is offered at 1 p.m Monday, July 25 at the Palisades Recreation Center on lower Kaiminani Drive.
This class is geared toward the older driver. It does not include driving or written tests, only informative quizzes. It covers subjects that may affect drivers as they age.
Participants may receive a discount on their insurance.

Hands on History programs announced
Every Wednesday and Friday at 11 a.m., the Kona Historical Society hosts Hands on History at the Kona Coffee Living History Farm in Captain Cook, providing visitors and community members with the opportunity to learn about lives of Kona’s Japanese immigrants during the 1920s to 1940s.
Hands on History program activities this month are July 29: Weaving Tools and Treasures: Lauhala on a Kona Coffee Farm; Today and July 27: Home Grown Remedies: Kona’s Traditions of Medicinal Gardening; Friday and July 22: Beans in the Skillet: Coffee Roasting at Home; July 13: A Balanced Bento: Pickles as a Mainstay of the Japanese Table; July 15: Art and Language: Learning Japanese with Calligraphy and July 20: Backyard Groceries: Sustainability in the Kitchen Garden.

Conquer the math monster
The University Center, West Hawaii at Palamanui is hosting a free math workshop, Slaying the Mental Math Monster for Good,” to help current or incoming students who have a fear of math.
Participants can choose to attend one of the following sessions to be held in the Palamanui Campus Library Computer Lab:
• Today from 12:30–1:30 p.m. or 5:30–6:30 p.m.
• July 20, 12:30–1:30 p.m. or 5:30–6:30 p.m.
