The West Hawaii Suicide Prevention Task Force is sponsoring an evening support group for family and friends who have lost a loved one to suicide.
This Survivors of Suicide support group will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Full Life office conference room, 75-5995 Kuakini Highway, Suite 432 in Pottery Terrace, in Kailua-Kona. Everyone is welcome.

Read Aloud Shakespeare
to meet in Keauhou
Read Aloud Shakespeare will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Keauhou.
The group meets once a month to read The Bard’s plays and is currently reading Macbeth. If you are a Shakespeare fan, bring a copy of “the Scottish play” and join us. With just one more act to go, we’ll probably have time to start our next play, which is Julius Caesar the “Ides of March.”

Identity theft workshop planned
Warren Chong, an independent representative with LegalShield will be conducting an Identity Theft Workshop at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Tutu’s House in Waimea.
Chong will share information about the seven types of identity theft. Identity Theft occurred every three seconds in 2013 and is the No. 1 consumer complaint registered with the Federal Trade Commission for the last 14 years. What are the alternatives available and why is “restoration” to “pre-fraud” status the key?

Tropical Paws scheduled Friday
The 19th annual Tropical Paws, Hawaii Island Humane Society’s major benefit event, will take place Friday beginning at 6 p.m. at Four Seasons Hualalai Resort.
Tropical Paws has an established reputation for abundant silent and live auctions, cocktail reception with furry friends meet and greet, buffet dinner and entertainment and dancing. Proceeds help support Hawaii Island Humane Society’s Second Chance Fund and Spay/Neuter Community Assistance Program. The Second Chance Fund provides medical care and treatment for abused animals while they recuperate and become ready for adoption. The goal of the Spay/Neuter Community Assistance Program is to “fix the problem” by ending pet overpopulation on Hawaii Island.
“Tropical Paws is by far our largest and most important fundraiser. This year’s event will be exceptional as we are celebrating a very special milestone — 50 years of service,” said HIHS Executive Director Donna Whitaker. “We are in need of and appreciate the early support of individuals and businesses that, through their donations of cash and auction items, recognize the important work of Hawaii Island Humane Society.”
Tickets, which are $135 per person or $2,000 for a reserved table of 10, are available now at HIHS’s Keaau, Waimea and Kona shelters and online at hihs.org. A portion of each table sale is tax deductible as allowed by law.
