The Coffee Berry Borer Task Force board of directors will hold its annual meeting from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the University of Hawaii College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources’ conference room in Kainaliu. The nonprofit board is composed of seven members representing the Hawaii Coffee Association, Hawaii Coffee Growers Association, Ka‘u Farm Bureau, Kona County Farm Bureau, Kona Coffee Council, Kona Coffee Farmers Association and the Kona Young Farmers.
The board will review its 2014 CBB mitigation program and implementation of its Hawaii Department of Agriculture CBB Control Contract. It will also hear a report on joint Pacific Basin Agricultural Research Center/CTAHR CBB research projects and discuss potential future funding and scope of future CBB mitigation, education and research efforts. It will elect its 2014 officers at the end of this meeting. The public is invited to attend and an opportunity for public comment is also scheduled.
Hospice presentation, training offered
An Evening with North Hawaii Hospice is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. March 3 at Tutu’s House in Waimea. Attendees will learn about the services and support North Hawaii Hospice provides. Staff and those who have received hospice care will share the organization’s mission to provide compassionate, professional services at home while supporting empowerment, comfort and peace.
Members of the hospice ohana may attend to polish their skills as goodwill ambassadors for North Hawaii Hospice. Potential hospice volunteers should also attend this program. Attendance is a prerequisite for the core volunteer training course for North Hawaii Hospice.
Volunteer training continues from 4 to 8:30 p.m. March 5; 4 to 9 p.m. March 10; and 4 to 8:30 p.m. March 12.
The four-session course is for volunteers willing to commit four to five hours per week to North Hawaii Hospice doing respite care, family and patient support, office or other administrative tasks.
The classes cover roles and responsibilities of hospice staff and volunteers, policies and procedures, patient confidentiality, boundary issues, communication skills, information on death and dying, exploring personal responses to end of life issues, grief work and spirituality.
Attendance at all four sessions is mandatory for hospice volunteer certification. The training will be held in Waimea. Dinners will be provided most evenings, with a potluck on the last night.
Respite care volunteers are needed in Waikoloa and along the Hamakua Coast. Ongoing training and support is provided. Class size is limited; early registration is recommended.

Korean War veterans meeting Saturday
Korean War Veterans Association of West Hawaii Chapter 279 meets at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars meeting hall on the corner of Kuakini Highway and Makala Boulevard in Kailua-Kona.
Membership is open to any person who has seen honorable service in the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard if said service was within Korea including territorial waters and airspace from Sept. 3, 1945 to the present or said service was outside of Korea from June 25, 1950, to Jan. 31, 1955. Associate members are also welcome.

Rotary fundraiser slated Saturday
The Rotary Club of Kona Mauka will hold its 11th annual Valentine’s Wine Tasting Celebration from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at an oceanfront Kona estate. The evening will include a buffet dinner, desserts, entertainment and wines showcased by wine expert Alex Thropp, owner of Westside Wines. A silent auction will be held to raise money for local scholarships and to enable Rotary Mauka to continue carrying out its numerous community service projects.

VFW Post 12122 meeting Saturday
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 12122 meets at noon Saturday at the post. The post will be inspected at that time. All members are urged to attend the meeting.

Green speaking at auxiliary meeting
Sen. Joshua Green will be the keynote speaker at the annual membership meeting of the Kona Community Hospital Auxiliary, which is scheduled for Feb. 25.
All members and individuals interested in becoming a volunteer are invited to lunch at 11:30 a.m. in the hospital conference rooms in lower level of the administration building. Various representatives from the hospital and auxiliary volunteers will be available to share information and discuss what it is the organization provides for the hospital.
