Library ebook event begins Monday
“Keys to the Kitchen: The Essential Reference for Becoming a More Accomplished, Adventurous Cook” by Food Network chef Aida Mollenkamp, will be available for all Hawaii State Public Library System patrons to check out in both ebook and audiobook formats from Monday to March 5.
“Keys to the Kitchen” is a comprehensive manual that features a collection of more than 300 innovative, contemporary recipes, color photos, informative illustrations, a substantial technique primer, and how-to information for cooks.
This ebook is made available by publisher Chronicle Books LLC and the library system’s ebook partner OverDrive, as part of its Big Library Read program. The international program provides libraries and library patrons unlimited simultaneous access to a popular title for a two-week period, creating a virtual, global book club.
Interested patrons will be able borrow “Keys to the Kitchen” using a valid library card, and enjoy it on all major computers and devices. Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period so there are no late fees.
Visit librarieshawaii.org/overdrive and explore the more than 30,000 titles in the collection. Partial funding for these electronic services is provided by the Federal Library Services and Technology Act, which is administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Fruit growers
meeting Monday
West Hawaii chapter of Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the University of Hawaii Experiment Station in Kainaliu across from Aloha Theatre. The meeting will feature representatives from ChoiceMart and Adaptations with a question-and-answer session on buying and selling produce in Kona. Proper pricing for farmers markets, wholesalers and chefs will also be discussed. Nonmembers are welcome.
All attending are encouraged to bring fruit for sampling and talk story.

Book club meets Tuesday at library
The Kona Library Book Club meets at 11 a.m. Tuesday on the the Kailua-Kona Public Library lanai. This month’s selection is “Beautiful Ruins” by Jess Walter, a wacky and witty novel of social criticism from the acclaimed, award-winning author of the national bestseller “The Financial Lives of the Poets.” Light refreshments are served.
