No tsunami threat to Hawaii following Japan earthquake

No tsunami was triggered by a magnitude-6.8 earthquake that struck Friday off the coast of Honshu, Japan.

The earthquake was recorded at 9:21 a.m. Friday off the east coast of Honshu, Japan, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu.

Based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no threat of tsunami to Hawaii.
